North Lancs Hilly

The 2nd event in the hilly Lakes & Lancashire Sporting Course (SpoCo) series took place last weekend, organised by the North Lancs Road Club on a new course near Clitheroe, this was a 30 mile event and one of the longer events in the season. The weather was fine but the wind did pick and was very gusty for riders to deal with and then cold rain fell for the later starters.
Riding for Cleveleys RC, Nick Higginson said the new course whilst mostly on main good surface roads there was still 1,800 feet of ascent on the profile and a tough headwind on the last leg made it quite a slog to the finish. His time was 1hr 32mins and 42secs average speed 19.5mph, he was pleased with this having also ridden the day before in the local 10 mile club event. His clubmate Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial) also took part and was highly placed in 6th with 1hr 11mins and 25secs averaging around 25mph, the winner was Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) 1hr 7mins and 31secs who holds top spot in the series league.
